Force gateway group NOT to fail back
-
Is it possible to keep a failover group from returning to the Tier 1 gateway after it comes back online?
I have experienced my service provider flapping durring an outage which has become noticeable in Zoom calls and I'm looking to force a manual fail back or at least a hold timer.
Do these features exist?
Thanks -
@d1novak Not sure what your settings are but under System / Advanced / Networking at the very bottom there is a setting to "Reset all states if WAN IP Address changes". With that box unchecked, your Zoom call should remain on the failover interface until you close the session.

@Gblenn
Thank you for your response. It is unchecked. I Does that option mean the sessions associated with the Tier1 gateway (which are all) are destroyed and recreated rather than routed to Tier2 gateway?
thank you -
@d1novak Ok so perhaps then I'm mistaken and that setting has nothing to do with what happens in a failover and recovery situation.
I have a similar setup as you, using a 4G router as my failover. And I have only experienced one real "live" failover situation but it was in fact during a Teams meeting... In my case though, when my fiber connection came back after a few minutes, my Teams session remained on the 4G connection for the duration of the meeting. So I there was no interruption besides the first failover (from Tier 1 to Tier 2). Then next session that I set up ended up on my Tier 1 connection as expected.
And since you already had that box empty, it shouldn't be any different, unless there is some other setting involved in this?Are you saying that when your Tier 1 comes back, your ongoing Zoom meeting is interrupted and moved back to the Tier 1 connection??

@Gblenn I teach daily, days and nights so my occurrences are likely more visible. Typically, it fails over to Tier 2 and often is unnoticable. (I find out later looking at logs.)
However, on this latest instance, the Tier 1 was flapping and zoom reported my connection was unstable. Students reported poor audio and video. It was only resolved by changing the backup to Tier 1 and restarting zoom. Later that night my main connection stabilized. so naturally I'm thinking it is trying to switch back as soon as Tier 1 is available. I will test to verify.
