      I'm very new to using pfSense. While viewing system logs under "dhcp" I keep seeing the following "Apr 27 16:06:00 dhclient 26656 DHCPREQUEST on mvneta0 to 192.119.16.33 port 67" This IP is not in any of my subnets nor is it in the VLans. It's not the VPN range of IPs. Not sure why this IP constantly shows up in the logs. Is anyone familiar with this issue or can provide a reasonable explanation?

      Thanks!

        @ripcord you sure that is not your wan getting its IP? That range is owned by google fiber. That is not rfc1918 space..

        NetName: GOOGLE-FIBER

        Do you have google fiber?

        Notice that is dhclient, not dhcpd, That is you asking for you wan IP.. For example here is mine

        chc.jpg

        I would suggest you remove that picture, it has your public IP in it.. I can remove it for you if you want.

            Re: IP not recognized in system logs

            My public IP is showing 136.x.x.x, that's why I was confused with the 192.x.x.x

              @ripcord you know what, just looked at mine, because dawned on me, that is not actually my IP with the request and ack.. But that is the IP address of the dhcp server I get my lease from.

              You should be able to look in /var/db

              You should see a file

              dhclient.leases.yourinterface

              This will show your lease, etc.. And you might notice this

              option dhcp-server-identifier 207.181.xxx.xxx;

              Where that IP is what you see the request and ack for.. Not your actual wan IP.

              Mine is
              interface "igb1";
              fixed-address 209.122.x.x;

              your imaged removed btw.

              In my log I see along with that request and ack, where it actually binds my public IP
              Apr 27 06:47:29 dhclient 57841 bound to 209.122.x.x -- renewal in 302400 seconds.

              Do you see similar with your actual IP?

                Thanks for removing the image!

                Yes, I do see the request for the ack and I now see that this is the ISP dhcp renewing lease. I understand a bit more this time, where as before I had no clue.

                Thanks so much for giving me a few tips.
