      Hello,
I have a 6100 that I want to connect to a server with 10GBASE-T. I purchased a QSFPTEK transceiver and populated the ix1 port and it's reading a temperature of 73C. The max operating temperature of the SFP is 70C. Room temp is 20C and there is no active fans blowing over the unit. If the temp reading is correct, I assume I need to return it. Any thoughts or recommendations on a known good model I should purchase? Unfortunately I have to stick to RJ45 and can't use a DAC/twin-ax.

@NobodyYouKnow Well thats probably going to be difficult. SFP+ to RJ45 10G Base-T trancievers are NOTORIOUS power guzzlers (hot as hell). I have litteraly used 10+ different models and never come across one that didn’t get so hot it was very uncomfortable touching it - and that was in actively cooled and well ventilated switches. Sticking them in a passive 6100 is a recipe for overheating.

I’m not saying you can’t find a “modern” model where the inside electronics are of better quality (smaller production node), but I’m guessing you are not going to find one among the cheap’o readily available china models.

Love the no fuss of using the official appliances :-)

Another user recently recommended one: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/187986/netgate-7100-working-10gbaset-sfp
That specifically claims to be low power.

I've never tested it myself though.
