      Hello All!

Please take this as a sincere and innocent question......

I see Netgate is now providing training and certification for PfSense+.
Being proficient and demonstrating knowledge at work is always good.
So my question is...... with all the IT Certifications I can obtain....

What benefit does this certification have in the workplace? Is it recognized as a valid and useful thing to have on a resume or for advancement at work. How would I promote this at work as having value par with CCNA, comptia, Cisco certs, etc?

I now have 8 PfSense firewalls running at work, and another division has just ordered 4 to deploy in other locations based on my results with the units I have in place.

I believe the certification would have value, However, I really need some "real world" justifications as well.

Thanks for any input. I'm hoping to replace a number of Meraki units if I can build enough steam.

As you show, some companies use pfSense. I used to work at one. Also, certification shows you are interested in learning, even if what you're certified for doesn't directly relate to what a business uses. For example, back in the 90s, I got my Novell Netware CNA 3.x. I never used it in my work. I later was working on my CNE when I applied for a job at IBM. That I was working on it was seen as a benefit, even though I wouldn't be using it there. After I started at IBM, I continued working on the CNE and then got certified on OS/2 Warp 4. Also, much of what you learn is transferable. For example, I got my Cisco CCNA several years ago. In it, I learned things that would be relevant with pfSense or any other firewall/router, even though the details are different.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
        UniFi AC-Lite access point

        I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...
