Jim Pingle's YouTube video on SG-4860 reset

Woke up to a dead SG-4860... no problem, have a spare on the shelf with all the same goodies. Update, restore... a little patience... and all is well.
But, the dead SG-4860 had both red lights on near the power connector. At one time, our good Mr. Pingle had a video on YouTube on how to do the "reset" on this box that showed the timing of when to start pushing the button and when to stop. This was done with a custom modified toothpick IIRC... ;-)
I "had" that in my saved videos, but it isn't there anymore. I've searched for it for the last hour, no joy. Before I just start pushing buttons, can anyone point me to that video or the written instructions?
Also are any repair services still available on the SG-4860s?

Yup that's it.
However if you are seeing the status LED stuck at red it's probably a board (SoC) failure.
The SSD is a standard mSATA device. Almost any should work as long as it's not huge.

Stephen, sadly... yes. Once I got the case off and could see the LEDs without the light-pipes, the SSD was flashing a green at startup but the system board LED is solid red. I tested the SSD in a holder and it's fine. I poked around a bit with a meter and the scope on the board and no smoking guns at this point, but no signs of boot at the serial interface. (since I'm making the move on OpenWRT to the Linksys e8450s I've had to re-hone my USB/TTL skills with the UBI memory change issues, once done, they seem solid and lots less glitchy on the wifi side than the WRT3200ACMs you helped me with. But your setup on the DSA issues is still rock solid, Thanks, Again!)
So, is there ANY path forward on the SG-4860s? Any old stock laying around? Parts gathering dust on a lab shelf? Anybody fixing them? If not, I'll have to go on the hunt for another spare.

The only fix is a full board replacement. There is no way to modify the clk line to allow it to start, like some other devices you may have seen, because it's not exposed anywhere accessible.
I don't believe we have any boards remaining but the cost of replacing them is not usually economical anyway unfortunately.

Nothing I do anymore seems "economical"... I won't let that stop me. So who/where do I approach about the possibility of a full board replacement?
I still think the 4860 is a better box than the 4100 and certainly the 4200. I know in a world of faster, faster, faster they look better on paper but in a case where speed gives way to features, the 4860 still works better for me.
Ok, now that I've bad-mouthed the 4100/4200, know anyone who wants to ditch a old, slow and ugly black 4860 so they can go buy a gleaming white NEWER, FASTER version?? <grin>

Yes, RCC-VE-4860 is the same platform.
My timezone is pretty flexible at this point!

It’s very close. But is more like the SG-4860 1U. It has the PC like power supply connector (lower right) rather than the 12v barrel jack which would be at the 3 pads in a triangle also in the lower right.

The later boards/chips were not affected by the clock issue. Whether that is one though is anyones guess!

That's good to know. Is there any information as to the the serial numbers when the change took place? Whether it be the complete device or the boards that were corrected?

I don't have a specific serial number but anything that shipped (from Netgate) after May 2017 would have had the new board rev that did not suffer that issue.

Thanks, Steve... and I did put in a ticket with the "Sales Guys" right away and got Sales Ticket # 2889752879.
Absolutely no response yet, zero. So earlier this week I sent at bump email and all that did was create a new ticket referring to the old ticket...
Anyway, if you know whose cage to rattle, I'd appreciate it. I really don't like playing without a net.

Just a follow up on this thread to say thanks, provide some information for others and ask another question...-
My HUGE Thanks! to you, Jennifer and Josh for getting me the new SG-4860 MoBo. It just showed up today. Yeah, it was a bit pricey but having a seamless restoration path makes it worthwhile.

According to Josh, the fix date on the clock issue was Sept. 7, 2017. Anything after that date should not have the clock problem.

The new question: I was just poking around on the Netgate website and the pages on the SG-4860 don't seem searchable at this point. But I did find SG-4860 in my bookmarks.
I'm not sure what I'm looking for is/was ever available but I wanted to try, Is there any best practices white paper for bringing a new SG-4860 board up the first time? Should I move the mSATA over to the new board before the first power-up? Adding one is covered in the link above. Also, I'm assuming the new board will have a unique serial number already burned into it... or am I wrong? There was zero documentation sent with the new board.

Ah good to hear!
Nothing special should be required to boot the board. It may take longer at first boot while it trains the RAM etc. You may need to set the mSATA drive as the default boot device.
Yes it will have a new serial number, MAC addresses and NDI.
