We're excited to announce the release of the Netgate 8300 Security Gateway powered by pfSense Plus software! Designed to meet the demanding security and performance needs of medium to large businesses, xSP, and MSP/MSSP.

The Netgate 8300 delivers unmatched performance:

      • 36 Gbps+ of L3 routing (iperf3-bidirectional)
      • 26 Gbps+ of firewall throughput (iperf3-bidirectional)
      • 14 Gbps+ of VPN capability (iperf3-bidirectional)
      • 47% increase in firewall and routing performance vs Netgate 1541
      • 100% improvement in VPN and routing performance vs Netgate 1541

      Powered by:

      • Intel Xeon D-1733NT eight core CPU with integrated Intel AVX-512
      • 16 GB of DDR4 ECC memory in dual channel configuration (expandable to 32 GB)
      • Highly expandable dual-power capable 1U chassis
      • 4x10G SFP+ ports, 4x1G SFP ports, 3x2.5G ports
      • Supports additional expansion via two PCIe card slots

The Netgate 8300 is an ideal solution for high-throughput and mission-critical deployments, offering superior performance, reliability, and expandability at a competitive price point starting at $3,299.

@mwatch is this a pfsense plus new level of performance? for the longest time it has been stated 10 gigabits was the limit for pfsense and plus....

@hescominsoon I think mostly because of CPU power limits.

Interesting they do not list IMIX benchmarks for this. Usually I have found the "real" transfer speeds are about halfway between IMIX and IPERF3.

It is also presumably tested using multiple interfaces at once, meaning "total amount of traffic" not "downloading one file at 26 Gbps." AFAIK that is how Netgate tests all their models. And this one doesn't have any ports above 10 Gbps:
"Network Ports: 11 Independent 1G, 2.5G, and 10G ports. Maximum port flexibility - with 1G, 2.5G, and 10G Ethernet configurable as WAN or LAN across the combination of 11 RJ45 and SFP ports."

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS it has been stated by netgate for a long time the limit for pfsense kernel processing has been 10gig across their mid to high end....from atoms to 8 core xeons....hence my inqury

              @mwatch Hi All.

I just completed a new HA install on two 8300 MAX boxes, and I’ll hand it to Netgate (and its OEM) - these are REALLY REALLY nice boxes compared to any of the former higher-end appliances.
For the first time the look, feel and hardware really has become proper enterprise grade.

Very solid build, excellent design, two proper power supplies and enough interfaces by default really knocks it out of the park. It’s not cheap, but it is also in intirely different leagues than the 1537/1541 before it.

Love the no fuss of using the official appliances :-)
