Seems the beta-7 installer in the new 2.7.2 CE release has problems
-
I've been using the CE edition of pfsense for years. I wanted to create a new router on new hardware as the old setup was first done in 2015. So I went through the new process to get a new image. When it started it was clear it was nothing like the old installer. I had to get the vga iso back in February as I had the "could not upgrade" to 2.7.2 as that install had run out of space in one of the original partitions. That iso installs fine, gives the zfs options and allows for mirroring, only issue is that the install states that the console is serial not vga, even if the console is vga. With this new installer I made it through the needing and internet connection and being told I have to install the CE version (I thought that was what I was doing). When I started that install, all I got was zfs pick 1 disk. I killed it and started over with the iso from February.
Have some of the install options been removed from the CE version?
Is this just the state right now?
I'm up and running fine right now, just wanted to know if things have changed or are changing.
Thanks,
Bert -
So you got to the menu to select the install target disk and were able to select it? But then it failed to proceed?
Were any errors shown?
Were you able to grab any screenshots?
If it fails completely you should reach a prompt where you can check the logs in /var/log/daemon.log.

Sorry, I have been out of town for a while.
Maybe I wasn't clear. There were no errors, just no options for the zfs install other than I could pick just one disk. No stripping, mirror, ... as in the previous installer. That is why I stopped it and went back to the previous installer, I use a mirrored install. The previous installer's only problem is that it shows that the console is serial at boot, even though it installed and is used through the screen.

Hmm, that's weird. You should definitely see options for ZFS, including mirrored drives.
Are you able to replicate that?

I performed a clean install of CE using the new installer and did not have any issues.
I would still rather the installer contain all the files to install CE offline vs having to fetch all the packages from the internet.
The scenario is what if the reason I am doing a clean install is that my primary appliance failed, thus have to perform a clean install on a new appliance.
I guess that is why I have a warm spare ready to press into service on a moments notice.

It happened twice in a row. So I stopped and went back to another version of the installer, from February I believe, and completed the install.
This was a clean install as well. The first try was completely clean, the second was an attempt to reinstall after stopping the first install. It is installed now and I'm looking up the settings I had to make to change the initial boot screen not to say serial.
I guess it's just my luck.
Sorry if this is just some type of one-off. I was just making a comment because the installer came up as beta-7 and I did not see the options I was used to. -
Nope this is exactly the sort of edge case report that we want to see. You may well have found a bug if it was repeatable.
