    My home page claims:

    23.09-RELEASE (amd64)
built on Tue Oct 31 15:56:00 EDT 2023
    FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT

    Version 23.09.1 is available.
Version information updated at Wed Aug 7 9:02:32 EDT 2024

When I click on the download arrow, the system takes me to the update page and claims I am up to date. The orange light on the router front face never lights up.

Possibly unrelated, I am getting lots of messages like this:

    Notices
    Certificate Manager
The following CA/Certificate entries are expiring:
    Certificate: webConfigurator default (6234a44bd3e10) (6234a44bd3e10): Expired 474 days ago @ 2024-08-07 03:01:00

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Try switching the update branch to something else and then back.

If that doesnt work then at the command line run: pkg-static -d update

      Check what errors it shows.

@stephenw10 Switching the update branch did the trick. During this process, I noticed that the router firmware was old. Is there a way to get notified of new firmware versions?

Newer firmware is released via new update package versions. So if you add the installed packages widget that will show when updates are available to the pkg.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

                @SteveITS

Auto update check, checks for updates to base system + packages and sends email alerts.

@Gertjan I have never received any emails in all the years since I bought my Netgate router. Where is this action set in the menu?

                    Sorry, yes, you're right.
You have to click with the mouse, or tap on my phrase, as it is a link to another forum post where you are told what to do.
You have to create (copy and paste actually) a file.
You have to install the pfSense 'cron' package.
                    Etc.
