When trying to upload ISO images to install on cloud providers they always ask for iso url so they can grab the .iso file.

There are no options for .iso.gz files so why cant netgate add .iso files for this convenience???

Or anywhere to get the .iso files directly instead of thinking how to extract and serve these files some how spending stupid time when we can simply just have .iso files available

Doesnt netgate know about this issue that cloud providers ask for .iso url? Dont they know???

Annoying when common sense is not common. So annoying.

if this helps netgate, here is how you provide .iso files like ubuntu does

to be fair....this isnt remotely an issue for normal use case. If on Windows use 7zip, If on linux use gzip
Its just a compressed file nothing complicated.
On AWS, there is an image for it already there.

If a specific cloud provider is asking for the iso i cant imagine not being able to decompress a file and upload it...

Seems prior to the online installer, these files were/are meant to download and use a tool like etcher that will decompress and create a bootable iso image for you.

        seriously?

What cloud provider are you referring to here? I've always just uploaded the ISO directly.

vultr and many of them. They cant just allow you to upload files from your computer because they dont want risks. So they ask for url

@denitrosubmena I get it. I use https://github.com/rejetto/hfs for this matter.

All that or netgate can simply add .iso file and remove the .iso.gz

How does that in anyway mitigate risk?? I just serve up my "risky" iso from my machine, or anywhere else on the planet - like some cheap vps, etc.. With for example the tiny little exe that was linked to that provides a http or https server, hfs

Now if they did something that checked that hey the https url is to a legit company that provides distros ok maybe it some very slight risk reduction..
