FTTH GPON direct connect to 6100
-
Has anyone used a typical FTTH internet fibre optic GPON connector directly into one of the SPF or SPF+ ports on a netgate 6100 or would such a connector be required to pass through a media convertor to rj45 ?

GPON is not Ethernet so to connect to it you need a specific GPON SFP module which effectively has a tiny router inside it to do the conversion.
However most ISPs do not want anything but their own equipment connected to GPON and will reject unregistered devices. It really depends how your ISP has set stuff up. Before attempting it I would research if any other users from that ISP have managed to do that with any router.

@claferriere Concur with @stephenw10 - don’t go there unless you really know what you are doing.
However - I do exactly what you are asking about with a GPON Bridge SFP in my SG-2100 in France. I have tried the very same SFP in my SG-6100 and it works there as well. So module compatibility is there - but that is the least of the problems in getting GPON termination directly in pfSense :-)
You are not the first asking about this: Read this thread: https://forum.netgate.com/topic/189708/fiber-optic-to-pfsense-box?page=2
