is it possible to start the pfsens via WOL?

That depends on the computer you're running on, not pfSense. Not all hardware supports WOL.

PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
      UniFi AC-Lite access point

      I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...

The fact it's running pfSense is not relevant. The hardware must support WoL. pfSense can be woken by WoL no problem.

The two devices must be in the same layer2 subnet so if you're using the WAN it depends what they are connected to upstream.

            OK.
            work arround .
            Change question,
Is it possible to schedule the pfsense to turn on and off?

You could power if off with a cron job.

Powering it on would be something the hardware/BIOS would need to support. Some BIOS types can do that.

You start the computer pfSense runs on. WOL is a hardware function.

                  Technically firmware maybe? 😜

It's still hardware. You can have all the firmware you want, but if the hardware won't do WOL then that firmware won't do much.

True, the NIC must still listen for packets in standby which is hardware.

Based on my own experience, Wake-on-LAN can be a great thing when it works, but there will always be a situation where this thing won't work under any circumstances, even with the manufacturer's assurances that it should. In my case, it ended with assembling and connecting a PiKVM to the power button, and as a result, I also got a full KVM over IP setup.
