I downloaded what was supposed to be pfSense CE v2.7.2. Instead, it appears the downloader has given me a Release Candidate of pfSense Plus. What is up with that?

      The ISO filename is "netgate-installer-v1.0-RC-amd64-20240919-1435.iso"
Also, when I boot the ISO, the boot screen shows "pfSense +".

How can I get the latest FREE and STABLE release of pfSense?

Also, what are the differences between CE and Plus editions?

In advance, thanks for your help.

You can get the CE offline installer image from here:
        https://atxfiles.netgate.com/mirror/downloads/

Plus has more features and requires a separate license

        pfSense Plus 24.11-RELEASE (amd64)
        Dell Optiplex 7040 SFF
        Core i5-6500, 8GB RAM, 2x 240GB SSD (ZFS Mirror)
        HPE 561T (X540-AT2), 2-port 10Gb RJ45
        HPE 562SFP+ (X710-DA2), 2-port 10Gb SFP+

          Excellent. Thank you.

One more question, is there an ETA and additional information about the next CE release? CE v2.7.2 appears to be 10 months old and built on FreeBSD v14.0. FreeBSD v14.2 is coming out soon and appears to have a few security fixes that may apply to pfSense.

You can install CE from the RC Net installer too.

              @Diggy then it’s out of beta apparently…!

              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/netinstaller.html

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.
