sg1100 consolew login error

When trying to access the console I do get the Login: prompt, but when I enter in admin / pfsense I get the following error: /etc/rc.initial: No such file or directory.
I can login via single user from list of menu section. Was doing an upgrade.
Suggestions appreciated to get the device back up.

The console was not locked before upgrading?
You are seeing errors when booting?
If it was running ZFS you can roll back the ZFE BE snapshot.
If it's UFS you could try a manual filesystem check:
