      Hi,

I am confronted with an upgrade Lanner FW-7541 firewall running pfSense 2.3.4-RELEASE-p1 (i386).
This version cannot be upgraded automatically and I seem to have been sleeping through it for ages, so I want to upgrade to a current version.

Question 1: Does the hardware still make sense and what would be a successor model? (Internet access 250/50 MBit. Gigabit LAN)

Question 2: If the model still makes sense, how do I upgrade to the latest version without having to completely reinstall everything (including all routes etc.)?

Here it is recommended to completely reinstall such old versions, but it cannot be guaranteed that the configuration can be retained with config.xml.

What would actually be a recommended strategy, or has anyone already done something like this and can report on their experiences?

      THX in advance

Yes you will need to reinstall clean because that is the last 32bit version. That hardware supports 64bit though and will run the current version. It's not the fastest but if it's working currently it should still be good. It will pass 250Mbps easily.

You should be able to backup the config, reinstall 2.7.2, then restore the config into it.
