      Hi folks,

I am in the process of setting up a pfsense HA with CARP VIP, as described in this guide: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/recipes/high-availability.html#table-ha-sync-ip-address-assignments

Now I am at the last step, where I have to set up the DHCP HA. The guide talks about the Kea DHCP Settings tab, but I don't have it under Services->DHCP Server. There is even a separate documentation page for it: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/services/dhcp/kea-settings.html

I have two freshly set up pfsenses (baremetal) that are running with pure IPv4 (no IPv6), Kea DHCP is active as the backend. The rest is pretty much in the basic configuration. My pfsense's are running on the latest CE version:

      Version 2.7.2-RELEASE (amd64)
built on Fri Dec 8 21:55:00 CET 2023
      FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT

As an IT service provider, I manage more than a dozen pfsense's, none of them display the Kea Settings tab.

Does anyone have any idea why the Settings tab is not displayed?

        You saw the :

Son the question is : is your pfSense set up to use Kea ?

You can activate Kea here :

edit : pfSense 2.7.2 ?! IMHO : Stay with ISC for a while.

Also : I'm not sure, but the page talks about the latest implementation of Kea which you can find in 24.11, which came out a couple of weeks ago, it doesn't exist in 2.7.2 (more then a year old) yet.

Edit : and where are the logs ??

Here you should see the Settings tab next to all interfaces, but this is not the case.

pfSense CE 2.7.2, yes, am i missing something? That ist the latest available version.

Edit: Sorry if my answers take forever, they all have to be approved first.

Edit2: So the problem is in the CE version and the pfsense+ version already has the functionality?

            That's what I presume.
The main reason 24.011 came out was the better support of kea.
In 2.7.2 you have a minimal a minimal kea implementation.

This : 24.08 Sneak Peek: Improvements to Kea DHCP for Improved High Availability and Unbound DNS Resolution in pfSense® Software talks about the never released 24.08 version that has the new kea HA support.
Look at the date of the article, 2.7.2 is way older.

@Gertjan Alright, thanks for your help. Never thought that the CE would lag so far behind.

Then for now, I will just remove the DHCP Server from the pfsync and deactivate it on secondary/slave until 2.8.0 is released.

Netgate Releases pfSense Plus Software Version 23.09.1 and pfSense CE Software Version 2.7.2

For the new, unknown bugs, having the real sensation that your firewall is bleeding edge technology and some new gadgets, get Plus.
It's maybe better, but that's just a point of view.
The real issue is : 2.7.2 is to 'good' so there is less rush to get out a new version 😊
