My PFSense box has an Intel X550 which supports 2.5Gb and my Netgear Modem also supports 2.5Gb. However, If I leave the WAN NIC in Auto negotiate it only connects at 1Gb.

I have tried forcing it to 2.5Gb and it worked just fine. My biggest concern here is the warning language in the UI that says not to force the speed. Am I over thinking this, should I just force it, my provider does provide 2Gb service.

        Yes. 😉

If it links correctly at 2.5G when you set it statically then there's no problem. If there was it would just fail to link at all.
