Mysterious crash and reboot
-
Hi.
I'm not really expecting a concrete answer here, as that would require loads of information about my system and such, but I would like to know if what happened to me and my Netgate 1100 is a common thing or something very unusual.
It's running as a transparent bridge between my router and the rest of my network. The other night I lost my internet connection for a few minutes, and when it came back up I put it down to just one of those things that sometimes happen. I had an email from the Netgate device saying it had rebooted. A few days later though, I notices that the Netgate device was running an older saved configuration.
Is this a herald of something seriously amiss with it? As a side note, the automatic backups seem to be having difficulty in connecting to the Netgate servers.
Regards, Rob.

Did you check the Logfiles?

Do you see any other alerts?
It sounds like it failed to boot the current BE and fell back to an earlier one. Do you see a BE marked bad in System > Boot Environments?

@stephenw10 Hi. I don't see anything especially alarming in system/boot environments, there's a default entry with a check mark called default and version 23.09.1, and two other entries called auto-default, with versions 23.01 and 23.05.1. They are dated created 26th Feb 2024, while the default one is dated created 10th Feb 2023.
What would I look for in tha logs? Would they have survived the reboot?
Regards.

Hmm, so the most recently created BE is still enabled?
In that case it must have reverted the config if it couldn't load it. There should still be logs showing that.
