I am not sure what this means. Looking at the roadmap, I just see a bunch of opened and closed bugs. I don't see anything that pertains as to when the development snapshots will be available again unless there is something I am missing?
Watch from time to time on that site for a date! Like this for example;
Release targeted for May 2024This will be shown if a release date is known, if not they can´t say anything about.
Wouldn't that be full release? Not development snapshots?

Any word on the CE 2.8.0 snapshot? Any word on a release date for the official CE 2.8.0 release? We are kinda in a holding pattern thinking that a new release is coming soon. A status update would be nice, please and thanks.

@Diggy if Netgate holds to form it will be after the Plus version 24.11 is released. The beta of 24.11 was announced today

I'm starting to think Netgate has abandoned pfSense CE. Maybe it is time to switch to OPNsense.?!

From my perspective, they are pretty much the same. Better at monthly updates so far. Different layout and stuff, but otherwise, they are the same platform and everything from my understanding. So to me, same concepts, just things are in different places.

@clifford64 So how often is OPNSense getting updated? I too am starting to think pfSense CE is an afterthought at this point.
But then this forum is extremely good at quickly getting support from other people, not sure if I can get it over there.

It is not me that should elaborate anything. Its all of you that constantly whine about CE version not being secure, just because it has not been updated for 15 months. And every time i ask people to point out ANY security issues in CE version, i never EVER get any reply. As i said in other thread, you want updates for the sake of updates. In fact, you dont know what you want. Thats the sad part. You want the updates, but god forbid you support the project by bying a + version. I see some of you have switched to opnsense and yet, you still come here and brag about it. Are you really that bored ? Do you really think netgate cares ? No one cares.
Why cant you appreciate the fact that you have this very powerful and secure firewall solution for free? Why cant you appreciate the fact that there is alternative solution? Why not use either one without bragging and whining ? This is why we cant have nice things. People have become entitled and too spoiled.

I apologize if you took what I said as whining. I was only responding to an update on a forum post that I made a while back. I am by no means bragging. For me personally, I made this post over 2 years ago because I was experiencing some issues with how pfsense was handling IPv6 neighbor discovery. I completely forgot about it until I received a notification that someone had responded and I responded to their comments, as is the point of forum style discussions.
As for not being secure, it appears to be vulnerable to an openSSH bug. However, I think this is mitigated through the system > patches item.
https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2023-48795However, no patches in a few years means that bugs aren't getting fixed on a regular basis and it is more susceptible to new vulnerabilities that are discovered in old libraries as various packages and their libraries are updated to newer versions.
I am not telling anyone what to do. I am just telling those who have asked what I have done to resolve the issue that I posted about.

I wasn't aware of the drama until yesterday when I started looking into OPNSense, and I must say I am completely grossed out, and that's an understatement. The very owner of Netgate not being shy to go borderline criminal against "competition" and part of the community following. Yeah, I think I am switching regardless. -

I have no idea what are you talking about. I use opnsense in some of my deployments as well. It works well. Im not a fanboy, i dont defend netage, deciso, or anyone else out there. This whining that im pointing out in here happens on opnsense forums as well. There are whiny opnsense users that do pretty much the same. They constantly criticize opnsense for this and that, and then they threaten that they will switch to pfsense. As i said, no one cares.

You sure love drama dont you? Why dont you focus on doing something productive instead of bashing vendors and picking sides. Why cant we enjoy this free software while it lasts. I hope you are aware that the era of open source firewalls is comming to and end. The last thing we need is bunch of whiny and spoiled users to bash pfsense/opnsense/dynfi developers. And just for the record for all of you that are switching to opnsense because it gets regular updates. Why dont you research CVE-2024-6387 and report back in here. Let us know how long did it take to fix this issue in opnsense (that gets regular updates) vs pfsense that "gets no updates". Let us know.

Based on what I am seeing, it looks like it was fixed in 24.1.10 which was released on July 11th 2024.
Again, I am not telling anyone what to do. Just responding to people as to how I fixed my original issue.

@clifford64 I think the point that a lot of folks are missing is that the FREE version, CE, does not include a lot of the bells and whistles that are included in the 23.x, 24.x, etc versions of the software anymore.
The CE version includes just the basic firewall and that's it. After all Netgate is in business to make money and cannot afford to give away all the niceties that they are selling in the other versions for free.
