Has anyone attempted to utilize openwrt one with pfSense as an AP? I just noticed openwrt now has official hardware. It’s a BPI with WiFi 6. Looks solid.

No reason it wouldn't work. Probably better ways to get just an AP though. It's not really a good AP form factor with the desktop case etc.

There are ceiling mounted ubiquiti access points that can run openwrt. Those are better and cheaper solutions than bpi based metal box. Only advantage that one has is the fact that you can not kill it when flashing wrong firmware.

I mean you're giving something back by using that device. And it will probably be supported forever!
If you want to do development it's probably better.
Personally I don't need .1ax yet so there are many many choices of APs that work well and have a better form factor. Like these.
Also if you haven't flashed the wrong firmware and been forced to recover it you're just not trying hard enough.

Does it count when i had to use ch314 programmer to directly flash eprom so i can recover bootloader before i can actually flash a firmware? ;)

@nimrod I had to find a way to put the vendor firmware back on and I bricked my first one. I did find a solution, took a bit, it is no fun being locked out of your AP. This official one has a switch on it Like really?

If I had to choose between purchasing the OpenWrt One or a Chinese equivalent from AliExpress, I would prefer the OpenWrt One. Although I'm not particularly fond of the manufacturer due to their tendency to frequently release devices and then either barely support or not update the software for them, in this case, it's a good combination of price, hardware, and OpenWrt, with which support is unlikely to be an issue on this device.
Unfortunately, I had already purchased a similar device from AliExpress and spent a lot of time experimenting with firmware. But... Filogic is very fast; it's probably the fastest OpenWrt router I've had.
