Re: Mandatory internet connection on new pfSense installer

This older post helped me understand why I could not install PFS. I was attempting an offline install. I will try again this evening with the WAN cable connected.

My old install was originally from 2.4 and just always worked. I updated some hardware & putting it all back together now.

I want to reinstall the latest CE and restore my configuration, then upgrade to PLUS edition. I have never had the Plus version but want to get that now. I think it’s $129 a year. Worth it I think.

@aljames Just be aware that the Plus license is tied to the NDI and the NDI will recalculate if certain hardware changes, like adding a NIC.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

@SteveITS Thank you! I will remember this if I am thinking about future hardware changes. I should be good now for a while.

I completed my reinstall of CE on new hardware and upgraded to Plus. It was easy once I plugged in my WAN side, and used a USB 2.0 port vs 3.0 port, and had to reboot the ISP modem to get a public IP refresh.

@SteveITS I wanted to give a like, but it says I am not a 5 yet. Not sure how this forum’s ranking works, but know that you get a thumbs up! Thanks again
