Re: Netgate 2100 SFP+ transceiver compatibility
Hi Forum
I need a link for a compatible singlemode 1Gb/s SFP module for the Netgate 2100.I tried various modules but they are not recognized, so it is also possible that i am overlooking something?
Thanks

How are you testing?
The SFP port in the 2100 is shared with the RJ-45 port and as such cannot read the module. It can only connect at 1G. It cannot set the module into any specific mode.

Hi Stephenw10
Thanks for asking. :-)
I connected a singlemode module in both ends with matching speeds (1Gb/s).Its matching SFP modules so i know that the wavelenghts are the same.
Its connected to a Cisco switch with a brand of SFP that i know work with the switch. (Peakopticals)
I made sure to use a new LC - LC singlemode fibercables so i know that they are not damaged.
I cross connected the cable so that transmitter is connected to receiver part of the SFP module and its directly connected with a 1 meter cable.
I work in an IT departement and that is why i have different SFP modules from different brands but i did have a focus on compatibility every time.
One thing cought My attention thou, when i look in WAN interfaces on the Netgate 2100 and look on the drop Down list, media supported by this interface, i cant find a singlemode compatible module. Does this mean that singlemode SFP is not supported?
If i need to get more into detail, let me know.
Thanks again for your time.

Because it's a combo port there is very little flexibility there. There are no real settings on the port. It either works or it doesn't.
I've tested a few different modules there myself including some BiDi and GPON modules. But I'm not sure I've tested a singlemode module personally.
