UFS in ram on a ZFS installation??

after some problems i decided to do a clean install on ZFS.

So after some trouble to get the USB to boot im finally in the setup. First i choose restore config.xml and it went back to the menu so i clicked install and choose auto-zfs install.

everything went fine and then it said the following.

unable to update repository pfsense-core
repository pfsense has no meta file, using default settings
ERROR an error has occured on pkg execution rc = 70 with parameters update -file

as with my setup i used the internal DNS and not the 1 i get my my ISP etc. So it had no way to convert all the url's to ip's. Got that fixed by loggin in the webgui that worked luckly and enabled the override dns thing and did a reboot.

Now its downloading all the file etc so that is good.

Now everything is up and running. i saw the next thing when i logged intot he webui. see attachment.

the Disk usage ( /var/run ) is usf in ram.

did something went wrong with the update?

Now stop a moment and have a think, ZFS on a RAM disk…..

Maybe because the RAM disk is UFS. If the RAM disk was on the ZFS drive it would not be in RAM...

The RAM disk is a temporary disk, it gets reset at boot, not much point in ZFS on a RAM disk is there?

It was just a question. I havent had time to dive into ZFS deeper. I know some things but this just looked strange so i asked.

Ram disks are always UFS on pfSense/FreeBSD. Technically you could use another filesystem for them but nobody does that because UFS is the standard filesystem of FreeBSD.
