@chpalmer Modem is Sercomm DM1000. It's on the list.

Yep. That one is a Puma chipset based on the link I put up for you.

          UDP traffic affects them badly.

Find something with a Broadcom chipset.

@chpalmer Thanks for the pointer. In that narrative there is a note as follows:

"Note: stand-alone routers do not contain Intel Puma chipsets."

This implies to me that a router in bridge mode would be a good alternative.

            Your thoughts.

@tedquade a stand alone router is not a modem. They are speaking of SOHO type routers with that statement.

Several of the models on the Puma list are in fact "gateway" or modem router combos. It does not matter if they are in bridge mode or not. The issues still exist.

@chpalmer I completely forgot about the Puma chipset. I agree with @chpalmer, find a modem with a different chipset.

And thanks to all of you for your input.

@tedquade My ISP provides CODA57 modems. I have been unable to determine the chipset. I hope it is a step up from CODA56 which seems to be OK. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow.

I hope the CODA57 works out for you! If weird slowdowns keep happening even with it, maybe it's worth checking signal stats in the modem UI or asking your ISP for a line quality check. Sometimes, it's not just the hardware.

@LukasInCloud CODA57 is in service. Problem was a 10gig link between an upstream switch and the 6100MAX. The switch is between the cable modem and the 6100MAX. All is good now. Tech at the ISP was instrumental in zeroing in on the problem.
