      I hope that someone can help as I am new to this,

      I have the CE Version of PFsense on a Netgate device,
      about a year ago, when I set this up all was working, but when I log in this week to add a package that I discovered that it was empty.

      the first thing I did was to disable all my rules and retry, = no change
      as this is all new to me I am reaching out for help in how to resolve this.

      I have gone into my log files and under the system general I am getting
      syslogd sendto: Host is down

      looking at the other tabs they all look OK, but as I am new to this I am not 100% sure.

      I look forward to hearing from someone

        CE version ?

        Rules ?
        LAN rules aren't used by pfSense. pfSense is on the other side of your LAN rules.
        WAN rules ? These are for incoming connections.
        Floating rules ? Normally, you don't have these.

        The package list is empty, and can I presume their is nothing available under System> Update > System Update neither ? So you can't update to 2.8.0 which is avaible since a month or so.
        This is a known issue with 2.7.0 (2.7.1 ? 2.7.2 ?), and was found many moons ago. The solution is posted here on the forum.

          @Gertjan sorry the version I have is 2.7.0-RELEASE (amd64)
          and here is a screenshot of my WAN Rules.

          glad it was not something I had done, and that this is a know issue. I will hunt for the solution within the forums, thanks for reply.

            This is the solution I was talking about :

            certctl rehash

            Btw : 2.7.0 is pretty ancient.
            Locate the USB drive you used to install pfSense.
            Get the free installer from their (Negate) site, and re install pfSense 'from scratch' with the latest avaible version.
            Recent pfSense versions now also uses the new ZFS file system, and to get it, you have to re install, as disk partitions have to be re created.

              @Gertjan the pfsence came pre-installed.

              before I update the pfsence, I will first look at how to backup all my settings / rules etc as I don't want to recreate them all.

                So your device is one of these ?

                The pfSense CE pre installed ... 😧

                  CE did come preinstalled on some Netgate devices. The Minnowboard Turbot (MBT) for example.

                  But, yes, from 2.7.0 run certctl rehash to see the update.
