Purchased a Netgate 3100 on ebay... however
-
I unit I bought seems to work. So I reset to factory defaults, and I can make it work.
My concern is that the box is allready registered. to who I don't know.
I've added an M.2 disk and was looking to reimage the box. AI chat pointed me to a link for an image... my login credentials to the vault site threw an err0r 403.
Asking for a direction. Do I have to pay for a lite subscription?.
I assume I can just put CE on it, but I'm cecking in with the community first.
thanks for any assistance.

No, you can't put CE on it. CE is compiled for Intel/AMD 64-bit CPUs only. The SG-3100 uses a 32-bit ARM processor. Only pfSense Plus (the customized SG-3100 image) can run on the box. But since it is a Netgate appliance, you should be able to install pfSense Plus on it. But that hardware platform is rapidly approaching obsolescence.

@seesaw Netgate devices get pfSense Plus, it's tied to the device (the NDI), not to the owner. And as an owner you can request a recovery image.
Someone got a similar question How to reinstall an SG-3100 in 2024?.
You open a ticket, https://www.netgate.com/tac-support-request and get the recovery image. The latest supported version is probably 24.11 and a few packages are not available for it: 24.03 New Features and Changes: Netgate 3100 (32-Bit ARM) Limitations.

Not so much rapidly approaching it as already beyond that point. It has been end-of-life since 2023-10-22: https://www.netgate.com/support/product-lifecycle
24.11 will still run on it despite that, and it looks like the upcoming release will too, but that's not guaranteed. Neither are any future updates or fixes for it.

Yup, that^.
But, yes, open a ticket with TAC to get the 24.11 recovery image.

@stephenw10 this has been a learning curve for me.
I thought I was going to couch up some $$$ for support, but Support came to the rescue. They did a great job and were quick to respond.
thanks for those who responded... now my journey continues
