new hardware and upgrade frm CE to Plus, best path ?...

I am running pfSense CE 2.7.2 (tried upgrade to 2.8 and got stuck on reboot, so had to re-install 2.7.2 and use a backup to get where I was before trying to upgrade to 2.8).
Anyways, I decided to upgrade my hardware, and move over to Plus, and wondering what the best way to do this would be. I suppose I could just fresh install Plus onto the new hardware, but wondering if I could then use a backup from 2.7.2 CE to get my set-up in Plus ?
Or should I install 2.7.2 CE, use my backup, and then upgrade to Plus ?

- install 2.8 on new hardware,
- import 2.7.2 configuration,
- check hardware is OK / works
- enter plus registration
But there maybe good reasons to do it differently eg
- install plus
- import 2.72 configuration

@Patch Thanks for the suggestions ! ...yeah, I was wondering if I could use a backup from CE to configure Plus... I suppose this would be the most "direct" approach...? what would be the rationale to go with the first approach instead ? Cheers

check your hardware choice is OK prior to committing your plus licence to that hardware

@njaimo I don’t think you can buy/upgrade to Plus from 2.8 until 25.03 is released.

You can go from 2.7.2 to 24.11.

@SteveITS Thank you for this ! ... I will install 2.7.2 CE, use my 2.7.2 backup, test to make sure the new hardware works OK, upgrade to Plus 24.11... hopefully with no issues anywhere... :)

...well, after some false starts (like loading 2.7.2 and running into different interface names on the new hardware (i,e. igc0 vs igb0, etc..) which did not allow th eloading of my VLANS etc... I ended up editing the backup config file, replacing "igb" for "igc", and loading 2.8.0... all is working great now on the new hardware.... I will wait until I can upgrade from 2.8.0 to Plus... reason to go to Plus is to contribute $ to the project, as I have been using pfSense for free for years now... am recently retired and delving into IT and learning as I go... Thanks for all the replies and suggestions !
