@jerryf72 Yes but Netgate will convert it for you if you open a free ticket. (the 1100 uses VLANs on its switch). They will probably ask if you actually use the OPT port or if they can ignore that.

In a pinch, I've seen posts about using a USB stick as storage on an 1100.

Edit: available in Plus presumably since non-Netgate devices are unlikely to use eMMC storage.

Just for reference some early 1100s used an eMMC chip that the utillity cannot read ware data from so you might see that.
Those show as:
Extended CSD rev 1.6 (MMC 4.5)

A bit of a necro-bump for this thread. I just pulled my SG-1100 out of storage for a new network and decided to check the status of the eMMC. I ran the mmc extcsd read /dev/mmcsd0rpmb command which returned the following:

eMMC Life Time Estimation A [EXT_CSD_DEVICE_LIFE_TIME_EST_TYP_A]: 0x03
eMMC Life Time Estimation B [EXT_CSD_DEVICE_LIFE_TIME_EST_TYP_B]: 0x0b
eMMC Pre EOL information [EXT_CSD_PRE_EOL_INFO]: 0x01

After reading the Troubleshooting Disk Lifetime it looks as if:
EST_TYP_A]: 0x03 - The disk has used 20%-30% of its estimated life time
EST_TYP_B]: 0x0b - The disk has used 100%-110% of its estimated life time
EOL_INFO]: 0x01 - he disk has consumed less than 80% of its reserved blocks

Clearly the A and EOL are nothing to worry about but the value for B worries me. Realistically, does this really mean that this element of the storage is on it's way out? ANy guidance people can offer?

Hmm, odd to see those values so far apart. But the B value should be the more accurate as it's the estimate for MLC devices. So, yes, that is shown as estimated at the end of it's ware life.

You can try installing to USB instead.

@stephenw10 Thank you for the confirmation.Does it have to be a USB flash drive, or would an SSD in an enclosure work just as well? I have a couple lying around that I could use.

It could be an external USB connected SSD, yes. uboot doesn't care what the actual drive is, just how it appears at boot.

@stephenw10 Thanks again for the reply. On the SG-1100 there are two USB ports on the front. There's a white one on the left next to the WAN port and a blue one on the right hand side on its own. Does it matter which one I use for the USB SSD?

It looks as if I can use this guide to get it set up.

The blue one is USB3 so should be significantly quicker at boot. But it doesn't make much difference after boot.
