Spent some time digging into why I couldn't get pfSense installed. Went down a DNS rabbit hole of why my DNS wasn't resolving pkg.pfsense.org, but I failed to verify if I could resolve it anywhere.

It looks like the repo is down. Is that a normal occurrence? Is there a way we can know when it will be live again? If not, is there a full downloader to get through the install?

@pizzacake can you provide more information of what you were trying to do? New installation or upgrade? What hardware? How do you connect to the Internet: PPPoE, DHCP, static IP?

If it was a new installation: what installer file did you use? You will have to configure the WAN interface in the installer.

@patient0 Hi! Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I'm trying to install pfSense on a VM in ProxMox. I am running over DHCP and used the AMD64 ISO for VMs (2.8 is the version).

I configured the WAN using DHCP and a virtual NIC for the LAN. I get through the verifying internet process, then after finalizing FS type and partition scheme, it starts the install, but ends with "Failed to fetch the pfSense pkg repositories".

Last night, I tried to resolve pkg.pfsense.org, but today it was working. It looks like the repo was down, so I couldn't get the update, but all good now.

Yup, there was a backend issue. Should be good now.
