Installing 2.8 behind archaic PPPoE/VLAN from CenturyLink
-
For whatever reason, our CenturyLink fiber provider still requires PPPoE. In the past this was no problem as I could install pfSense CE from the full image, then set the configuration.
Since there's no full install image for 2.8, how is this handled when installing on new hardware? Does the installer know enough to allow configuring this kind of Internet connection?

@jhg the installer allows to configure PPPoE WAN for the installation.
pfSense Installer documentation: Configure WAN interface, quote:
"The installer supports DHCP, static IP address, and PPPoE configurations for WAN interfaces. Additionally, interfaces may be VLAN tagged if necessary."
Interesting to remember: all these settings you configure in the installer (for WAN and LAN) or only used in the installer.
After the installation you will have to configure it again on the first boot, as with previous versions. -
The new installer version (real soon now) can pass though the WAN config to the resulting install.

@stephenw10 Is this available yet?
IMHO things are MUCH simpler with a complete install image instead of an "installer".
The installer requires an Internet connection, which may not be available, especially when recovering from a hardware failure on-site. Hiding the image behind an installer really goes against the spirit of Open Source.

It's in testing now. No issues so far so should be available soon,
