Type Hostname - Translate to internal IP automatically?
-
Hi,
I am using a small appliance device - the hostname is setup to N40L. I would like to be able to open a web browser, then type n40l & have the devices webpage pop up.
Currently its on a DHCP lease - i gave it an IP (192.168.2.18). I would like N40L to translate to 192.168.2.18 in a web browser. In Windows if i type \n40l - the shared files pop up.
I went to Services, DNS Resolver:
Register DHCP leases in the DNS Resolver (Checked)
Register DHCP static mappings in the DNS Resolver (Checked)Nothing seems to be working - am I missing something?
Thanks,
Rich -
What did you enter for the domain name in System -> General Setup. If you enter something like "mylocal" then you need to use "n40l.myhome" in the browser. Also make sure that the device running the browser is using the pfSense as DNS server, and that the Hostname in Status -> DHCP Leases is correct.

So I have the domain as localdomain
when I open a browser & type n40l.localdomain it doesnt work.
The N40L has a DNS as the PFsense box, the DHCP lease shows the host as N40L.
