I have a spare 5100 that previously suffered the eMCC issue and I have since 'fixed' with a SSD. I just tried to update this appliance from the console and it won't do it. Below is part of my console session, it just loops through the same output every time I choose option 13.

I realize this version is quite old, is that the reason?

Also, I should note that I updated my working 5100 earlier today (8 minutes on GUI if anyone is curious). Is there is a block on my IP since I did this once today?

@JonH What branch is selected in the GUI?

        Try https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/upgrades.html#upgrade-not-offered-library-errors

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.

Thanks. I’m trying go update the device via console by just hanging it off my modem and nothing else is connected so I don’t have a gui.

I tried the package static install command line, but it did not start the install. I think because I don’t have the right boot environment that didn’t work.

I went ahead and attached a laptop to a lan connection and brought up the gui. I set ghe update to 25.07 and used console cmd 13. That did an update of the boot code partition code, but my system has hung on the reboot. The messages of grade will continue after the system restarts do not power off or reset.. Well, it’s not resetting it. It’s not rebooting.

I’ve noticed in the past that this spare 5100 doesn’t always reboot, it actually needs to have the power cord pulled completely out before it will restart again.

Meanwhile, my household is screaming at me because the 10 Minutes that I was gonna be down is turning into a half hour.

It’s pretty obvious that it’s not gonna restart so I guess I’ll pull the plug in cross my fingers.

And that worked out ok. Guess the lesson here is not to skip updates if one is going to be using a console connection to update.

            Thanks for the help.

Yes, in the dynamic repo system ugrades are supported from the previous two versions. So you can skip one version. For 25.07 that's 24.03 and 24.11 so you would have needed to upgrade to one of those first from 23.09.
