      Hi!

I tried to upgrade 3 units (APU4+Sierra MC7455) and they all went offline after downloading a bunch of pkg and rebooting.

only LTE connection, no traditional WAN.

Is upgrading through LTE/Cellular supported? I saw the mention "Firewalls must be connected to the Internet to update" in the Netgate docs, but it's not stated clearly if it needs ethernet WAN. I did upgrade units using PPPoE WAN and it works fine.

      Thanks for your lights!

@judesro I use my cellular router all the time for such.. I do have the modem in bridge mode but that should not matter.

Your on another subnet besides 192.168.1.0/24 on your modem right?

@chpalmer is your cellular router plugged to your PfSense using ethernet?

In my case the LTE modem (Sierra MC7455) is a mini pci-express modem directly in the box running pfsense.

I am using serial (PPP) connection.

I would expect that to work fine. I can't see any real reason it wouldn't upgrade normally. Unless perhaps you're using the cellular pkg and the pkg itself gets updated.

Are you using ZFS or UFS?

Are you able to get logs from any of those failed upgrades?

@stephenw10 two of the units are ZFS, the last one is UFS

I will probably have to move onsite to diagnose/reinstall.

Hmm, a ZFS install especially should have no problem there because it pulls the upgrade data before rebooting.

I wonder if it's actually hitting some other issue and is unable to reconnect after upgrading. I'm not aware of anything specifically affecting the APU4 though.

                  Update :

Upgrade on 3 units worked correctly. LTE is now down.

After searching for the error message I found https://forum.netgate.com/topic/174804/ppp-log-weird-things-omdentggeneeriicc-atmoecmd-laabeell-solved

Using &F&C1&D2E0S0=0${temp} LTE connections are back, however they are too unstable to be used in production.

Not sure what's going on but that update broke something. I will have to downgrade to 2.7.2.

                  shrug

Ah yes mpd5 is a fickle beast!

How do you mean unstable? It keeps disconnecting/reconnecting?

What did you have in the init line in 2.7.2? I'm surprised anything changed there.

I still use here and haven't seen any differences in recent versions.

@stephenw10 honestly I am not too sure at this point.

First day after the fix, I've been randomly losing LTE links for shorts periods. Since last 2 days it's been all right, it would have been such a coincidence that the provider had problems at the same time. Though not impossible...

Last night I lost IPSEC tunnel (one site only) for maybe ±30mins and then it came back. No indication of LTE down/gateway down during this time.

I've adjusted the log level for IPSEC so I can go back when it happened (level was too high).

We did NOT downgrade the units for now.

We had NO init string using 2.7.2 and it was working fine!
