Advice to upgrade from USB memstick 2.2.1 to 2.3.5 on HDD

Hello,
I have a pfSense box running on Atom D2500CC installed on a USB memstick 2 GB with 1 GB RAM - version 2.2.1 - x86 version.
I Would like to put a HDD inside the firewall and do a fresh install of pfSense 2.3.5 CE x86 and restore the configuration from 2.2.1 x86.Is this upgrade recommended ?

You can do it 2 ways:
- You can backup your configuration through webconfigurator while your USB flash is running, then install your bare hard drive and do a clean install of 2.3.5, start it up, then restore your backed up configuration
- Or, you can image copy the content of your flash usb onto your hard disk drive (using dd or similar software), then install it in your machine, boot from it and then when 2.2.1 is up and running perform a system upgrade.
Upgrading to 2.3.5 is a good move as quite a few security updates have been applied to pfsense post 2.2.1.

I get regular backups of the configurations each time I change something . I wasn't sure if config from 2.2.4 is compatible with 2.3.5
I have ordered a new SSD and I will do a clean install , then restore the configuration.I did this trick once in the past , but I had a backup from a 32bit config and I have installed 64bit version of pfSense and only RRD graphs were lost.
