Let's take that as working theory.
Say I buy a Netgate device
It come with 1 year subscription, that's cool.

How will it help in my scenario? If I need to replace I'd buy a new one? Not to mention that it's expensive.

Why build some artificial difficulties that force users NOT to pay for pfS?!

@chudak Lifetime of the device, not your personal lifetime. And even then, there's no guarantee your device will still work with current builds 2-3 years later depending on RAM, CPU etc.

How do you connect monitor to it?

Huh? Netgate devices typically have a console port for updates and CLI functions. But the 'monitor' is just the GUI interface that you access via web browser.

And what about like in my case you need to do a "fresh" install?

You reach out to TAC, they send you the latest software, you put it on a USB and load it to your device via the CLI.

Its all detailed in the instructions:
                      https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/index.html

@azdeltawye CLI in this case probably means the serial console.
                        Which works just fine.

But the OP, I'm not sure I would expect my SG2440 (way over 8 yrs old) to work/be supported by 25.07.

But that's just me and I probably have different expectations of "everything"

                          See for example https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/netgate-4200/#how-to-guides

In general Netgate makes sure new releases work on old Netgate hardware until it can’t.

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.
