I have submitted this patch, which was accepted: https://github.com/pfsense/FreeBSD-src/pull/57
However, looks like I'll have to wait about a year if not more before 2.9.0 comes out, which is a very long time.

How can I build a kernel for 2.8.0, the same way as the stock kernel is, just with the patch applied on top? I was looking and looking and have not really found instructions for how to do that, let alone official ones.

      Moreover, I don't even see a branch for 2.8.0 at https://github.com/pfsense/FreeBSD-src.

Or am I essentially locked out of making any changes to the software myself?

@kprovost you've been kind enough to review, test and merge the PR. Maybe you could help me do a similar kind of build as you did?
