any known issues with Netgate SG2100 and Frontier fiber?
-
I am scheduled to finally get my residential Frontier fiber connection (500 mbps) installed tomorrow and planning to forego the Eero device they provide (will keep it for emergency use) and connect the ONT directly to my SG2100. I figured I would get ahead of the curve and see if anyone was aware of any known issues with the SG2100 and Frontier fiber or fiber in general. I did do a forum search and google search and only found some posts regarding Frontier and the SG3100 from a few years back. Not sure if any of those are relevant, especially a few years out.
My current set up has my SG2100 in a DMZ behind the Frontier provided Arris NVG443B, using the Arris's passthrough mode (DHCP-fixed). WAN on the Netgate is currently configured to DHCP. Pretty straightforward config otherwise; no significant changes from the defaults. Everything works great, except for the bandwidth, it being bonded DSL (rural PA with no other option until now except Starlink, which is a bit cost prohibitive for me at this time).
The only specific question I do have is regarding the WAN setup. I believe I should be able to just connect the ONT to the SG2100 WAN port using DHCP; basically just plug it in to the Netgate device as is and do a reboot/power cycle. But some of my google searches, depending how I word the search terms, say the WAN connection should be PPPoE. Obviously I'll see what the tech says tomorrow, but wondering if anyone can confirm one way or the other whether DHCP or PPPoE.
Other than that, just wondering if there is anything else I should be keeping in mind or looking out for. Trying to avoid any unforeseen problems. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.
