      @latimeria

It seems you are defending Netgate or just hurt feelings.
There are millions of posts all over the Internet regarding this particular subject and they are all pointing to business points of view.

For what I am guessing, it is going to happen just like it happened to CentOS, MySQL, OpneSuSe and other opensource applications.

Since you neglected to point any of the posts, can you point some of the posts?

Seriously, requesting a moderator to close this chat???
If you don't like the subject, DON'T READ IT!!!

      P.S.
Here are more information about that:
"The change has created significant frustration among users because the online-only approach prevents installation in several scenarios, including:
High-security or classified environments that have no internet access.
Offline systems or networks that are intentionally disconnected from the public internet.
Installing older versions that may no longer be available.
Migrating installations in environments without an internet connection.
Due to the lack of offline installers, many users in the open-source community are migrating to alternative open-source firewall distributions, such as OPNsense. "

Just another limited minded with narrow and low IQ.

If you want to pay go right ahead but, don't sit there claiming opensoure licensing while doing the opposite,

Do you even know what being entitle or spoiled actually is?

The people like you are crying and running to the cloud, that by the way, do you even know where that concept came from?, trying to save money, when in reality you are wasting it.

You are so brilliant arrogant user.

          Again, DON'T READ THE POST!!

            Yeah. Im very limited.

Do you realize that you are crying on vendor forums just like thousands of other users have been crying before you. Do you really think Netgate will change their stance on what they are doing just because you started this thread? They can do whatever they want, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Deal with it and stop your whining.

If you want to pay go right ahead but, don't sit there claiming opensoure licensing while doing the opposite,

I absolutely wont pay. But i also wont start a thread and whine because they switched to payment only model. I will just quietly move to something else. Simple as that. No need to be drama queen and seek attention on vendor forums. It wont change anything, so stop it.

Do you even know what being entitle or spoiled actually is?

You are the best example of it.

The people like you are crying and running to the cloud, that by the way, do you even know where that concept came from?, trying to save money, when in reality you are wasting it.

You are so brilliant arrogant user.

You know me so well. Spot on good sir.

            Again, DON'T READ THE POST!!

            Again. Stop whining.

error because the old config.xml file was not comparable with the new 2.8.x series.

Config files can be restored to a later version of pfSense/config file version.

              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/backup/restore-different-version.html

I would suspect some other reason.

Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to reboot, or more depending on packages, and device or disk speed.

@nimrod Take your own advice and quietly move to some other thread. You're adding nothing of value here, and your initial post was insulting.

                    @nimrod

You need dictionary to learn what the meaning words you are using.

Since you said limited, I say extremely! Therefore allow me to educate your ignorance. There is a difference between whining and asking for clarification.

Once clarifying other Admins can prepare a plan to deal with the new process. As @KOM said, you just acting like 5 year-old child trying to insult everyone in this thread.

Everyone knows once that a corporation take a route, it is not going to change, but again, your ignorance shine once again. And you think I am the clear example; you are the perfect definition!

It is very obvious you don't read much, then education is coming your way. All the applications mentioned before are dead due to lack of creativity and the teams that used to support those platforms abandoned those project making them nothing more than a test ground.

And yes, the idea was for a professional or some kind of reliable channel to provide answer, instead of disdainful individual, since pfsense CE has not specific path contrary to pfsense plus.

Thank you @KOM! You are correct! @nimrod is just making this thread long and useless with his arrogance. But, as his name imply, he is hunting for knowledge. Please feel free to educate him.

Once again, you are barking without knowing. Put your tail between your legs and depart!

Ok locking this, nothing useful happening here.

For clarification there is no 2.8.1 ISO/Memstick image available and it's unlikely there will be. But that doesn't mean the situation won't ever change for future releases.
