Netgate MBT-2220 in use anywhere?
-
I am a home user using a SG2220 W AES NI have been VERY happy with my device
looking to replace/ have a backup device for my house.
using PIA for my connection. Tv's go through the local gateway address for netflix/ amazon. wondering if the MBT 2220 will be sufficient, of if i should spend the extra 100 dollars for the MBT-4220 System (https://www.amazon.com/Firewall-Appliance-Gigabit-MinnowBoard-Turbot/dp/B0722JRVCH/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1513091853&sr=8-2&keywords=netgate)
the slower processor is a slight alarm, so i would like real life feedback from someone who has purchased one..

2220 has reached end of sale, you can't purchase them anymore. We recommend SG-3100 or one of the minnowboard models. NineX wrote a nice review here https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=135128.msg740048#msg740048
Every of these appliances is capable of up to gigabit speeds, however if you rely more on VPN, I would go with SG-3100 or even quad core turbot.

IVOR i appreciate the reply. but isn't the 3100 a 32bit only device? how can you install the latest 2.42 version of Pfsense?
i keep reading they are going away from ARM processors and 32bit devices. but isn't the 3100 both of those? seems like i would be going backwards

It's 32bit ARM however it is supported by the latest 2.4 and future pfSense versions. The 32bit limitation only applies to i386 Intel / AMD platforms and not ARM based devices.
