Minnowboard dual ethernet quadcore HDMI Problem
-
Hello,
Originally bought this item from Amazon in the Summer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0722JRVCH/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Installed pfsense and worked great until recently. Connected a monitor to it to discover that it is faulting and is just in a boot loop after it attempts to boot to pfsense. Fixed this with a bootable usb and worked fine for about a night. Woke up the next morning to it doing the same thing. Now my issue is that I can't even get it to display video through the HDMI port anymore. I have tried multiple monitors as well as plugging in the monitor after boot or leaving it plugged in during boot. I know there are reported issues with the HDMI port on these boxes, but I thought it was fixed by power cycling the box. Any help is appreciated, as right now I just have a $350 paper weight. Thanks!

does it work with other software

Does the netgate box work with other software you mean? I can't actually see the boot menu when it powers on, so I can't reinstall or do anything with it unfortunately. It powers on, but I have no idea what it is actually doing.

Looks like this means:
- has nothing to do with pfSense
- hardware or base firmware is broken
- it is official hardware (has a separate board)
Have you called NetGate yet?

I haven't called them only because it looks like to get support, I have to buy a support bundle. This is just a firewall for home use, so the idea of buying a support contract sounds weird. I suppose I could do it temporarily. Is there some other support number I may have missed? I was looking here: https://www.netgate.com/support/contact-support.html

I'm not sure where you live or how the law works there, but where I live, the reseller/retailer is responsible for handling this kind of thing. Since Netgate is where you bought it, they would be responsible. The law here states that a business selling to consumers is by default responsible for ensuring a sold item lives up to its expected functionality for the duration of its acceptable lifetime. It's pretty much a blanket law to make sure businesses don't try to sell crap or scam people. Then, there's warranty, which you should be covered by, since it should be at least a year. (that's what netgate states on the site as 'manufacturers warranty') That page lists this as the contact options: https://www.netgate.com/company/contact-us.html
Also this, indeed: @Grimson:
