Does anyone know if this works with pfsense?
I built a p4 based system to test pfsense on (basically to load balance 2 DSL) lines
now i know it works i'm tempted to replace it with a Alix based system as it's much smaller,quieter and uses a lot less power.
Wasn't going to bother putting wireless in it as i'd use my Linksys WRT160N running dd-wrt as an AP/Switch
However it was testing my old d-link DSG-G624T on one of the lines (as a modem) and came down this morning to find no sync on that DSL line and the d-link smelt a bit funny so i think it's DSL chip has gone byebye (it was a rubbish router anyway)
before I trashed it i did however manage to pull it's wi-fi board complete with the cable/sma connector still attached and the original detachable antenna.
it's an Alpha WMP-G04 802.11G Mini-PCI card I believe probably a TI chipset.
I wouldn't buy a wi-fi card for the Alix pfsense box if i do build one but as i just have this card kicking about in my spare parts collection if it works with pfsense i'd probably end up chucking it in there.

I don't recall seeing any FreeBSD support for TI WLAN chips. Its a while since I looked at the state of Linux WLAN support but I think I've seen reports of no Linux driver for TI WLAN chips which would suggest programming documentation is probably pretty hard to get.
Can you plug it into a system to see if its recognised? If its in a system it should be possible to dump the card's PCI configuration information which may enable me to identify it.

I believe OpenBSD has support via acx, but needs external firmware. AFAIK, no one has brought this over to FreeBSD. I put a newer TI card (tnetwi350a) in an Alix for grins, and it wouldn't even boot…

sadly not as I don't feel like trying to disassemble either of my laptops to stick it in one of them and i don't have anything else that would take a mini-pci card.
