Asterisk

Browsing the packages directory on www.pfsense.com made me quite excited when I discovered the asterisk-1.0.9_1.tbz. I also soon discovered that it is not (yet?) included in the pkg_config.xml file, and thus not installable from the pfsense GUI.
I'm a new pfsense user (in fact the "discovery" of the asterisk package was the reason why I installed pfsense today) and I'm also new to FreeBSD. My questions are: Is the presence of the asterisk package indicating that it will be an official package in the future and/or is there another way of installing packages in pfsense? It would be fantastic to use pfsense as a PBX.

I'm working on this, but it's not going to happen untill first quarter 2006.

I have the same idea, first of all I'd like to use a wifi phone to create a setup that will allow wifi phones to be used with the wireless on pfsense and then either have a proxy or asterisk with a ISDN/PRI interface in the pfsense box. Then you have a pbx for the wireless phones, once this is done you could also use the asterisk as a PBX for wired ip-phones or softphones. My plan is to implement asterisk +a modified version of Asterisk Flash Operator Panel. And I also want it to use RADIUS for authentication.

Neat!
That's one of the things that really turned me on to pfSense project.
Even though pfSense will never allow for such packages to be installed on the "main box" (aka firewall/router) it will be wonderfull to see an "alternate 1 box" or an "alternate 2 box" running packages such as IDS, Antivirus, soft PBX, etc… but all that inside a wonderfull GUI.
I'm loving this :D.
