      ok now its worse.
i've re-installed beta-4 from a new cd but the install (copying files) failed (ERROR 1) during the process, i've tried again and again
but it always fails on 35% which is from memory something like "cpudb -vvv /usr/src" or something like that…

the cd doesnt look scratch but i guess i'd try another burn, right?
anyway just wanted to report on that.

If you are consistently getting errors you might try burning the cd at 1x (it's only 60M, it won't take long ;))

You think it's the burning speed?
Sounds kind of odd… Did it happen to you before and that what solved it?

Dono, think CD's are going the same way as floppies before : you use Plextor burners and $ CDROM's - still things toast.
The nice side : it will still be toast after 30 years, floppies would be ….. dust  ;)

Let's get back to the image - show - portal thing : you'll see, you will find the thing, because you and I know now that it's on your side  :D

Edit : and where are the logs ??

right but now i've got no beta4 cause it won't install correctly :)
and i've already gone through booting with ubuntu, erasing the entire partition table - it has NOTHING on it and then did a
so-called fresh install of beta-4 yet it still stuck on EXACTLY the same position 35% on the "cpdup -vvv -I -o /usr /mnt/usr" and i've noticed
that on other ocassions that i've partitioned the drive differently it was stuck on say 18% yet still on the same action (copying files from /usr /mnt/usr im assuming).

So I'm seeing that others are having this problem just as well…
How about we try to fix it?

Urgent : Tried this morning and integrated this line :

                It worked !!!!

When I converted my opther png file in jpg format - it show up also…

The good thing : it work - and for lir : search ! - the pb is on your side, as it was on mine. Beta 4 works (never had a doubt about it, Sullrich ;-) ).
The bad new : sorry about losing your time about this && I don't know what I did to make it work, normally I track changes I applied - this time I can't give a clue…

Anyway - one happy user here.....

PS: one thing : showing a preview with the "View current page" on the Captive portal setup page doesn't show any of these local images - but a try 'on the Portal side' (and that's whats count) showed them all !!!).

Yeah, I have noticed that as well.  I'll see if I can fix this.

                  sorry but i'm a bit lost :)
you said you're fixing it… fixing the captive portal showing images or the installation of beta-4 being stuck on that cpdup of /usr to /mnt/usr?

First things first : I confirm that jpg files are working now…. is fine for me.
You're install problem isn't pfSense related. The BSD installer just copies files to the hard disk - this should be going well if the CE is ok & the harddisk is ok.
I used the latest LiveInstaller Beta 4 files - it works (installs) well.

Sounds like you figured out the CE was a typo for CD.

                          right.
so lets continue - i've done what you offered and burned it on another cd (3rd one) at x2 speed.
still the same error (cpdup of /usr to /mnt/usr), still at the same 35% position.

so how do i get passed this issue?

btw- i've continued with the install and chose 'skip' when the error arose.
the system boots fine and im capable of defining a wan/lan ip. though if i browse to the lan ip i get no browser-
is that because im suppose to do something to turn it on from console or because it probably skipped some important web files which
were support to go to /usr?

                          thanks.

Skipping files means something is missing and even if it appears to somehow work I wouldn't want to rely on such a setup as you never know where it will break.

I'm not sure if this is an option but try to install the hdd in another machine and move it over after the installation went through. I guess it's something about your hardware freebsd doesn't like. Also trying another CDROM-Drive might be worth a shot.

                              nah.
                              it's an operational 1u server.
im not gonna take its ins and outs and turn the whole thing apart.

sorry but it just drives me crazy.
maybe ill install the beta2 and upgrade to beta4 from the web configurator.

Worth a try if that works for you.  Beta4 is on FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE, Beta 2 would be running FreeBSD 6.1 RC1 - maybe something changed in FreeBSD that's causing your problems.  Certainly nothing big has changed in the installer (I don't think anything small has changed either).

                                  ok
what i did is a complete (fresh) install of beta-4 - even though it errored on install on that cpdup what i did is get on it's http
and did a firmware upgrade of beta-4 (the full version) and now it seems to all work ok except im again stuck with the first problem -
the captive portal still doesnt display any images…

so we're back to point a.
