I get the following on bootup in the dmesg.boot log:

      ad0: 29314MB <ibm dtla-307030="" tx4oa5aa="">at ata0-master UDMA33
Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a
WARNING: / was not properly dismounted
WARNING: R/W mount of / denied.  Filesystem is not clean - run fsck
WARNING: R/W mount of / denied.  Filesystem is not clean - run fsck

So…I run fsck to try to correct the problem and get the following.  It does not give me the option to answer yes, it enters no automatically and goes on to the next.

      fsck

I guess the piece that doesnt make sense to me is "** /dev/ad0s1a (NO WRITE)".  Its a HD install, I would assume it would be writable by default.

          fsck -y

Should be..  That doesn't really make sense to me.  Not sure what to tell you, perhaps try a diff hard drive?

Also, I assume you know that you can only fsck -y from single user mode.

If NO WRITE is truely NO WRITE, then its confusing to me how Ive been able to create/save rulesets, install/remove/modify packages all this time.

Single User Mode meaning logging into the box as root via SSH, choosing option 8 for shell and then issueing fsck -y?

                    no.

You need to specify boot -s at the press return to continue loader prompt.  Hit any key excecpt return to drop to a boot prompt.

Im not sure, but I dont think that is possible on the IP330's since the only way to watch them boot is through the management port and hyperterm.  There is no boot loader prompt.

Huh?  This is a freebsd load prompt.  It has nothing to do with Nokia.

Bollocks.  You need to get a proper null modem cable.  There is a BIOS that looks like a text version of a normal AWARD bios.

I had exactly the same issue using a three-wire null modem, where you really need all the handshake lines etc.   The FreeBSD stuff starts coming up after the boot loader prompt, if you have the wrong serial cable.

The cable is worth under $10 in any currency.  G'luck!
