Customized config.xml running from Live pfSense CD
-
Hi
How are you? I am trying to edit config.xml from conf.default and burn as LIVE CD, so that my pfSense won't need to apply any setting on everyboot. I have tried to extract the LIVE CD pfSense and edited the config.xml and run mkisofs and burn on the CD. It boots thru the boot loader and then it stuck on "Trying to mount root from cd9660:/dev/iso9660/pfSense." file system and asking me to specify the file system. Is it something wrong with my iso file? FYI i tried to boot an untouched live ISO pfSense CD booting up successfully, but not the edited one.
Thanks!

Well, I'm pretty sure that the answer is : Yes
edit : Use Google, and, …. let's say "editing ISO file" ;)

Also you can use a USB stick or floppy disk or whatever to store your configuration.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried this "http://www.monkeybrains.net/~rudy/example/custom-freebsd.html ", that came across the error messages mentioned. Is there any other editing iso tutorial link? Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks for your advise. Unfortunately, my dump pc old enough not having USB and I don't have any floppy drive.

Hummm, no floppy, no USB.
You know what : you're right - it's a firewell/router anyway :D
Two solution to test pfSense anyway :
- The motherboard should have a Floppy connector (otherwise your PC isn't really a 'PC') - so, you'll be having a difficult mission : go to any PC shop and buy your self a floppy drive + floppy cable (they won't believe you, insist !!)
(check if the flopp power connector is there). - You gona love pfSense anyway : so, does your PC has a harddisk ? A 5 Go IDE will do….. Use it !! Install pfSense from CD to the hard disk, and your setting will be saved ! If you do NOT want to wipe your HD, just buy a 5 Go (they will laugh again, just insist again - or take that 500 Go one and know that you will have 32 Go for pfSense)
These two options aren't expensive at all - the last time I asked for a Floppy drive they gave it to me (they thought I was nuts).
PS : Buy also a floppy disk for your drive ;D
