      Hey there,

Just a question to anyone out there who'se run SMP on this firewall, I've got a quad xeon mp box laying around, and i want to use it as a firewall right now, will this firewall run SMP out of the box? Or do I need to do anything to make it see the 8 procs that it really has.

      Thanks,

      Josh

I think we enable SMP by default, but that's a serious waste of this box.  Use it for a server or something (btw, quad means 4, not 8).  I highly doubt FreeBSD takes good advantage of SMP for routing and I know that pf is still in giant lock, not a finer grained lock; you'd be better off buying a high speed single proc box.

yeah, it wouldn't just be for routing heh, of course it'd be doing other tasks, and these are xeon MP's, more like hyper threading than dual core, but still shows up as 8 heh

          thanks for the input
