HP Compaq DL380 G2
-
Hi guys !
We're running pfSense on a HP Compaq DL380 G2 with 2x 1.40 P3 CPU and 1.5 Gb RAM.
There's one thing I wonder about…
everything boots up fine and all but t takes a long time.. after taking a look at the console in the serverroom i saw that
there's written something like:SMP initialized
CPU 1and then it takes about 5-10 minutes to continue booting the box...
But it's only with two processors...
Anyone knows about it ?

Strange, you might use the Compaq smartstart cd or whatever it's called (I don't believe the G2's have a traditionally configurable BIOS) and futz with the settings. Maybe it needs to be configured to unix/freebsd/linux/whatever non-windows setting there is.

Well sounds good… just forgot about that while rebuilding our crashed exchange server...
Thanks for the tip !

Shit… no freebsd setup on the Compaq setup CD :'(

Try the other options then, maybe one of them is suitable for freebsd as well.

Well i tried…
any of the unixes did not work but linux ( :o i know) works best until now...
i'll try more soon ;D

I always select Linux from the smart start fun-ness cd.
Afterwards I scrub my hands for as long as often as they feel dirty.

As originally suggested, linux is likely the "best" option.

:D
well… seems to be most popular...
but perhaps one day there will be a pfsense option in the bios :P

I was seeing the same problems on my IBM x330 Dual P3 box. Appears to be ACPI related.
hint.acpi.0.disabled=1 to /boot/loader.conf
should take care of it
