Nortel Contivity 100 reboots continuously

I have a Nortel Contivity 100 that I'm trying to install pfsense on. I cut the J14 trace that's next to the CMOS battery between two solder points 'G' and 'S' with a modelling knife and wrote the pfsense image onto a 1gb CF card.
When I turn the Contivity 100 on, with a null-modem cable connected to a computer, I can see the boot process up until a certain point, where the router resets itself. The last thing I see before it reboots is 'Creating symlinks…...'
From what I've read the last few days the router reboots when the watchdog circuit hasn't been disabled, so have I not cut the right trace/not well enough?

It's entirely possible that you cut the wrong lead and/or have created a situation where something is shorting across the board. I suspect the second case to be less likely given how far along, you're getting. You might try installing something like m0n0wall to test and make sure that this condition isn't confined strictly to pfSense.

Use one of the freebsd 6.x based m0n0 images first to make sure it's not a freebsd 6.2 related bug.

The Last version I tried on my Contivity box was 1.0beta 2.
How much memory do you have in the system? The system is touchy about the type of ram being used.
What kind of board/cpu do you have in the setup? The Contivity 100 series has been around for many years and has taken on many forms.
The J14 Trace is just a wire, nothing more that runs about 1/2" long on the motherboard.

Yep, I tried m0n0 at first with a VGA card in the PCI slot and when I saw it kept on rebooting I bought a bigger CF card and tried PfSense

I have a 256mb stick of ram in, and I've tried both m0n0wall and PfSense with the stick and without the stick, in both scenarios the same thing happens.
I'm not sure what board it is, but its a 333mhz cpu IIRC, I haven't touched the unit since my last post - I've been busy with other stuff. I'll take another look as soon as I can.
By wire do you mean its not a trace on the motherboard, and its a copper wire with plastic insulation? On my board its a printed copper trace on the motherboard, and I cut away at it with a modeling knife, maybe 0.5mm deep.

I actually have the same box and the same problem. Can anyone clarify where to cut J14?

yep that is exactly what we cut, worked fine for us on 3 different boxes.
(actually because my boss is a madman we did not cut it so much as desolder and replace it with a standard jumper header lol) -
That mspaint is exactly where I cut. Going to test cutting the jumper now.

Yeah it worked to get m0n0wall working for me, I'd much rather use pfSense or if I can figure out how to get it working, I might try installing ipCop. Me personally I am more of a linux person than a BSD person. I currently use FreeNAS on one of my boxes and it works great. But I gotta get a bit more used to BSD type distros. since this Contivity 100 has room for a hard drive I might go that route next, because I only have the 8MB CF card that came with the COntivity and not real interested in buying a bigger one for it when I have hard drives just sitting around.

just keep the drive on the smaller side unless your putting a controller card in. …..just incase you were thinking of a potential nas unit.

Hey I have a contivity too. I have been running m0n0wall on it but since I am trying to setup a Steam server I need to be able to configure outbound NAT. How do you get pfsense on a CF card for this and to use the com port you guys are using telnet with a serial cable? What are the telnet settings…
