Thanks for the reply the links are very helpful.
I still have some addtional questons.
So if I am understanding this correctly the only way to add multiple private IP's to the LAN interface is to use VLANs.
I do have a managed switch that supports VLAN tagging.
I have added 3 vlans on my LAN adapter in the VLAN tab under the (assign) option. I do not see how I can assign differnet NAT and Firewall Rules to the VLANs there is no option that I can find to set the VLAN number Tag on a rule. Does any one have any examples of how to do this with pfSense.I am trying to do is assign different subnets to run on my pfSense LAN interface. If I understand things correctly I should be able to have the switch tag packetts coming from a given port with the correct VLAN tag id. I then need to be able to get pfSense to reconagize the tags and route them based on the rules associated with those tags. Is this a correct understanding?
Any examples or addtional help on how to achieve this on pfSense would be apperciated.

Then you connect the cable to the Tagget ( Trunk ) port on the switch.

Are those guides on a working server somewhere?..could use them(or the info on how to make a trunk port into a c3com 3300)
