(Not a serious complaint, but it would be nice to shave 15 seconds off the bootup/ reboot time.)
At bootup I can see "Default: F1" for about 15 seconds. Is it possible to reduce this ?

Just skip the step where you install the bootloader. IMO, the default should be to skip it…
