Both should work.
Is it possible to upgrade from 1.01 to the new 1.2 Beta
From System|Firmware hit 'Enable firmware upload' and point it to the directory where you saved
http://pfsense.untouchable.net/updates/pfSense-Full-And-Embedded-Update-1.2-BETA-2.tgz
before.Or can I backup my current settings, install 1.2, then restore settings,
At Diagnostics|Backup/Restore create a Backup of your config, install the full image and restore what you backed up previously.
Why are you asking, what are your concerns?

Upgrade worked perfectly using the
Firmware upgrade
I was just a bit worried about losing my settings - Pfsense box is running a mesh network with 6 WRT54g routers and I had a hell of a time initially setting up forwards etc to allow remote access for admin to them all.
Thanks for the advice

It's always a good idea to backup the current configuration before making any changes.
In case something goes wrong you can revert to this last-known-as-good state pretty easily :)IIRC pfSense stores alot of 'old' configurations 'under the hood' somewhere. I have yet to find an option to grab one of those as 'desaster recovery'. I know how to do this manually, though. ::)

may I upgrade from 1.2b1 to 1.2-rc1 using this method:
"From System|Firmware hit 'Enable firmware upload' and point it to the directory where you saved
http://pfsense.iserv.nl/downloads/pfSense-1.2-RC1-LiveCD-Installer.iso.gz"??? ???
When I use the backup method:
"At Diagnostics|Backup/Restore create a Backup of your config, install the full image and restore what you backed up previously."do I need to install packages that I was previously using and are not installed in the new install, as Squid or Ntop, before restoring the backed up config?
In this case of backing up config I lose all RRD traffic graphs??
thanks

No, you need to feed the full update file, not the iso to the updater process.
Otherwise you are correct.

In this case, is the correct file for upgrating, using the Upload Firmware, this one:
pfSense-1.2-RC1-Embedded.img.gz
???
If dont, what would it be?
thanks

No, you want that file from any of the official mirors: http://pfsense.bol2riz.com/updates/pfSense-Full-And-Embedded-Update-1.2-RC1.tgz

In this case of backing up config I lose all RRD traffic graphs??Doing an update (with the file Hoba pointed to) does an update where all your current data should stay valid. Backing up your config is recommended for saving you from trouble only. You won't need it unless something goes really wrong.
Doing another full install (read re-install) and applying your config to it means you lose RRD etc.
The packages are installed automatically from your backed up config, though. Even the package configuration should be restored from config.xml -
Hummm, thanks Hoba and thanks Chris!
I'll do an upgrade right now, but later I'll try to make a full install in order to change my hard drive to a bigger one! when I do this, I'll make copy of all my rrd graphs, maybe ntop also, in order to keep my lan History documentation.
I know it's off topic, but talking about rrd graphs, can I add between the 2days graphs and 1 month one, another graph with one week lenght??
thanks again!
